We would like to congratulate the 2008 recipient of the Clay L. Sellers Memorial Scholarship

The Singers Glen Volunteer Fire Company set up this scholarship to honor the memory of a very special member, Clay Sellers. Clay lived just outside of Singers Glen and joined the fire company in May of 1998. He graduated from Broadway High School and went on to attend Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Upon graduating from Denison, Clay was commissioned with the United States Army and attended Medical School on a full scholarship. Clay’s busy schedule did not dampen his enthusiasm and dedication to the fire company. Clay always made time when he was here in the valley for fundraising and running emergency calls. It was common to see him selling Christmas Trees over his fall break and parking cars at the lawn party in the summer. Clay was devoted to his education as well as his community and set a great example for recipients of this scholarship.
Clay passed away April 3, 2007. His family asked that memorial contributions be made to the fire company. We decided that a scholarship in his name would be a great use of those funds and honor him at the same time. The Rockingham Educational Foundation will administer the scholarship.
The scholarship is open to Rockingham County High School Seniors with priority given to Broadway and Turner Ashby students first. If there are no applicants from those schools, then Spotswood Seniors would become eligible. Preference is given to those who are members of a volunteer fire/rescue agency. First priority is given to those who wish to enter the firefighting field; second to those entering the medical field.
